Zsófia Polgár[ bearbeiten ]

Zsófia Polgár (, born November 27] 1974) is a Hungarian/Israeli chess player. She is sometimes known by the familiar form of her name Zsófi. She is the middle sister, and the least well known of the Polgár sisters. Unlike her two sisters, Susan Polgár and Judit Polgár, she is not a grandmaster, only an international master.

She did, however, in 1989 at the age of 14, stun the chess world by an exceptionally strong performance in a tournament in Rome, which became known as the "Sack of Rome". She won a tournament including several strong grandmasters with a score of 8.5 out of 9, producing an unprecedented ELO rating of 2928.

In 1999 she married an Israeli chess player, Yona Kosashvili, and moved to Israel, and she now has a son, Alon. She did for a time reach the ranking of the 6th strongest female player in the world, but she has not been particularly active recently (in 2005).
